As one of the top 10 destinations in Thailand, Koh Samui deserves a spot at the top of your travel itinerary.
Affectionately known as the island of coconuts and smiles, Koh Samui caters superbly to the modern traveller’s expectations.
Remote island life blended with traditional Thai hospitality and gorgeous beaches make Koh Samui a tropical paradise.
As one of the 42 stunning islands within the Mu Ko Anthong National Marine Park, Koh Samui is an abundance of towns and villages with an endless variety of shops and bars, cafes and eateries.
An eclectic assortment of restaurants and dining experiences await you in Maenam including, of course, truly authentic Thai cuisine with amazingly fresh seafood, French, Belgian, German, Austrian, Swiss, Italian Pizzerias, Japanese Sushi, Korean Barbecue and Turkish, as well as the outstanding culinary experiences to be had within the hotels and boutique resorts close by.
Maenam Beach
The beach stretches for over 7 kilometres and looks out to the neighbouring island of Koh Pha-Ngan. Visitors can enjoy the peace and serenity of the expanse of soft golden sand with an array of restaurants and chill-out bars.
Golf on your doorstep
10 minutes away from Samran Gardens is the world-class Santiburi Golf and Country Club with its 18 hole Golf Course, subtly tucked away in the hills of Maenam. Home to the annual Queen’s Cup tournament, the golf course is challenging and breath-taking both at the same time. If you are serious about golf, this is one for the bucket list.
From the western end of the beach, you can jump on-board the Lomprayah ferry to neighbouring islands several times a day and this makes Maenam one of the most conveniently located villages on Koh Samui.
Taxis Services
From the 4169 ring road, there is access to regular taxi services, both private and public.
Weather & Climate
The weather in Koh Samui generally comes in three distinct seasons: dry, hot and rainy.
Thailand is situated between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator (slightly closer to the latter), making its climate warm and humid all year round. The humidity level is generally between 70 and 85 per cent, and the temperatures averages at around 28°C.
Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui offers vacationers all they could dream of regarding weather conditions, especially those from cooler temperate countries.
The climate is generally good year-round, and the one thing you will rarely feel is cold. The optimum weather conditions can be enjoyed between December and August.
The Dry Season in Samui
The Dry Season in Samui runs roughly from December to February. With warm yet bearable temperatures, little rain, calm seas, and light winds.
Many consider this to be the best of the Koh Samui weather and the ideal time to choose a holiday.
The Hot Season
The hottest time of year is between March and April – a great time to visit if you can stand 30°C+ temperatures. Generally and historically around late April/early May, there is normally a sudden – and, for many a welcome and sudden arrival of rain. Paradoxically, from June to August is also considered a mini-high season in Samui. The weather usually follows a repeating pattern: strong daytime sunshine followed by late afternoon thunderstorms that are very welcoming.
The Rainy Season
September through to November sees the arrival of the monsoon and, therefore, the heaviest rainfall. Even at this time, it doesn’t fall every day and often only in short bursts. Koh Samui weather forecasts become increasingly unreliable as the conditions become unpredictable, with slightly rougher seas and winds. Although still great for a holiday where you intend to spend a lot of your time at the local beaches (particularly if you like your beaches less crowded) this is not the best time to come for diving and snorkelling, as visibility is reduced by around 30 per cent.
It is also worth bearing in mind that some other water-related activities will be affected by rough seas and high winds.
Please Note:
The weather predictions for Koh Samui are very different to those of Phuket and Krabi, which experience different seasons due to their specific location.
